Yancy “Doc” Beavers,
October 24, 1946 – September 27, 2018

 
Yancy “Doc” Beavers was a husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother, cousin, mentor, friend, USATF Official, etc.
 
“Doc,” as we referenced him, was a very influential USATF Official, nationally and internationally. Some of Doc’s contributions to our great sport are listed below. Above all things, Doc was a legendary official and he has been a great mentor to many of us. He made time to talk, teach, fuss, mentor, pace from the start/finish line to the hipping area, pace around the track to the start of each race, and he encouraged officials and athletes. “Doc met no stranger.”

 Yancy Beavers, known by many as “Ricky” and/or “Doc” departed this life for eternity on Thursday, September 27, 2018, in Houston, Texas. 


Yancy was born on October 24, 1946, in Birmingham, Alabama, to Yancy and Lillian Beavers the first of five children. He graduated from Immaculate High School.  He received both Bachelors and Masters of Arts degrees from New Mexico Highlands University.  Between his studies in New Mexico Yancy enlisted in the U.S Army. He is also a member of The Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity. 


Yancy worked as the Director of Financial Aid at Texas Southern University.  He had a true love and passion for sports.  Yancy worked for the USATF and USTFCCCA as a Master Certified Track official.  In January 2018 he was inducted into the Texas A&M Officials Association Hall of Fame for his great dedication and service.  He was truly loved and appreciated.
 
Yancy was proceeded in death by his parents Yancy Henry Beavers, Lillian Williams, sisters: Maria Davis, Leah Rene’ Beavers and step-mother Jewell Beavers. 
 
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Beavers; children: Eric Beavers, Tamika Collins, Koya Beavers, and Todd Beavers (Gayla); grandchildren: Alisha Markland-Beavers, Jordyn Cook, Kyle Markland-Beavers and Entoria Beavers. Sister: Nancy Daniel; brother: Rev. Aubrey Miller(Beverly); nieces: Tamara Davis, Karysa Daniel, and Danyell Beavers; great niece Maria Davis; cousins: Cynthia Dianne Beavers Wilson, HenriEtta Jones, Conway Spears and Brenda Wright.  Childhood friend Charles Gardner; and a host of in-laws.
